The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) held two discussions titled “Through Youth Dialogue to Reconciliation” with young people from minority communities in Preševo and Novi Pazar on March 12 and 13, 2026. The discussions focused on recommendations for reconciliation and dealing with the past formulated within the framework of the Berlin Process. The aim of the discussions was to gain insight into how young people view these recommendations and how they believe they can be implemented.
The Youth Initiative for Human Rights invites young LGBTQI+ people (also activists and allies) from the Western Balkans, Croatia and Slovenia to apply for the Regional Pride Academy 2026 - five online sessions, followed by a four-day Pride Academy in Belgrade, and the development of a Playbook.
This year’s Academy will take place in Belgrade from September 3rd to 6th, during Pride Week, and will bring together young leaders from Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia.
The Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR Serbia) organized a solidarity walk in Belgrade on February 28, 2026, under the name “With Sarajevo in Our Hearts,” following the tragedy that occurred in Sarajevo on February 12, when a tram derailed, killing student Erdoan Morankić and injuring several others.
Youth Initiative for Human Rights marked the 32nd anniversary of the first massacre at the Markale marketplace, committed during the siege of Sarajevo, with a street action. Activists of the Initiative distributed roses bearing the names of the 68 people killed in this war crime to citizens at the central Republic Square. Citizens then placed the roses on a nearby stand symbolizing the marketplace where the crime occurred.
Civil society organizations gathered within the joint initiative “Free the Streets” condemn the practice of prosecuting citizens who restore public spaces to their original state by removing hate graffiti.
