In January 2026, the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) organized three informational sessions for representatives of civil society organizations and informal groups interested in applying to the “Rights First” Call for Project Proposals.

The first session was held on January 22 at UG Svetionik in Novi Pazar, the second online on January 23, and the third on January 26 at KC LIVRIT in Preševo.

More than 50 participants attended the sessions, where they had the opportunity to learn about the objectives of the call, the eligibility criteria, and practical guidance for preparing their applications. Participants were also able to ask questions and receive clarifications to help them prepare their projects in the best possible way.

The “Rights First” Call is part of the eponymous project implemented by YIHR with the financial support of the European Union. The project aims to strengthen participatory democracy and support Serbia on its path toward EU membership by building the capacity of civil society organizations, with a particular focus on young people and marginalized groups.

The project is implemented in partnership with Serbian organizations: the Independent Journalists’ Association of Vojvodina, the Human Rights Committee from Niš, Link from Sombor, Livrit from Preševo, the Vojvodina Civic Center, and the Center for Academic Progress from Novi Pazar.

Under this call, a total of 10 projects will be funded: 3 projects from civil society organizations, with a maximum value of €10,000, focusing on advocacy initiatives to improve public policies, and 7 projects from informal groups, with a maximum value of €5,000, focused on civic activism and the promotion of human rights.

More information about the call, including the application form and detailed instructions, is available on the Youth Initiative for Human Rights website.
