The works presented at the exhibition were created as part of workshops for young people from Serbia and Kosovo on dealing with the past, intercultural dialogue and reconciliation, where the young people, among other things, learned about storytelling techniques that they used in creating stories and materials about war, peace, their experiences and feelings. The workshops were organized as part of the “Cross Border Youth Dialogue” project, which aims to promote reconciliation, cooperation and dialogue between the two communities through bringing together and getting to know young people, in order to encourage the creation of an environment that should facilitate the process of normalizing relations between Serbia and Kosovo. The project is jointly implemented by the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Serbia and the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Kosovo.
Through the exhibited works, young people from Serbia and Kosovo presented their personal and common experiences, highlighted mutual similarities and conveyed the message why cooperation is important for building a better future. Dalia Koller, creator of the concept and curator of the exhibition, opened the exhibition and presented the exhibition concept and details of the project to the attendees. She stated that this exhibition is a testimony of resistance and courage, which is much needed in the current circumstances of the absence of dialogue, and that young people have shown that they are open to cooperation and connection and that they are ready and willing to oppose the dominant exclusionary narratives that dominate in both Serbia and Kosovo.
The exhibition represented a space for meeting and talking to young people, as well as all interested visitors, about opportunities for cooperation and improving relations between the two communities. “It’s really inspiring when I see how young people from Serbia and Kosovo show us older people that reconciliation and friendship between two peoples is really possible,” said one of the visitors to the exhibition.
The same exhibition will be presented in Pristina, where the Kosovo public will have the opportunity to participate in the same way in the dialogue about the past, peace and cooperation.
