{"id":8577,"date":"2020-02-20T19:13:32","date_gmt":"2020-02-20T18:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yihr.rs\/?p=8577"},"modified":"2020-02-20T19:13:32","modified_gmt":"2020-02-20T18:13:32","slug":"the-ministry-for-interior-affairs-must-ban-genocide-denial-in-the-new-belgrade-municipal-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yihr.rs\/en\/the-ministry-for-interior-affairs-must-ban-genocide-denial-in-the-new-belgrade-municipal-building\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ministry for Interior Affairs must ban genocide-denial in the New Belgrade municipal building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>The Law&nbsp;on&nbsp;Public Assembly explicitly states that assemblies which aim to infringe on human and minority rights, that incite hatred on the grounds of race, nationality or religion <\/b><b>are forbidden. The same applies to assemblies that could cause violence, destruction of property or other forms of disturbing the peace. In line with this, we call on the police to prevent the announced assembly from taking place in the New Belgrade municipal building. <\/b><b>The fact that the Serbian Radical Party, as the organizer, is not required to announce its party conferences does not abolish the fact that the police is required to act by the law and prevent assemblies whose aims are inciting hatred and intolerance.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>The fact that Aleksandar \u0160api\u0107 and the New Belgrade municipality authorities have agreed to host their partners from the Serbian Radical Party, allowing them a space for their Srebrenica genocide-denying endeavours, does not surprise us. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seeing how&nbsp;the deputy president of this municipality is none other than Svetozar Andri\u0107, against whom the Humanitarian Law Center raised <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hlc-rdc.org\/?p=34855\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">criminal charges<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Office of the War Crimes Prosecutor on March 2nd 2018, this fact becomes even less surprising.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Svetozar Andri\u0107 gave orders for the formation of the Su\u0161ica concentration camp in Vlasenica. Between May and June of 1992, the brigade he commanded took part in the expulsion of ethnic Bosniak citizens from more than 20 villages in the Vlasenica municipality.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>On July 14 1995, by decree of Radovan Karad\u017ei\u0107, then President of the Srpska Republic and now convicted war criminal, Svetozar Andri\u0107 got the title Commander of Chief of Staff of the VRS Drina Corps. At the time, mass exodus of Bosniaks from Srebrenica was ongoing.&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This party conference of the Serbian Radical Party is morally unacceptable and raises safety concerns. After the promotion of the aforementioned book took place in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/yihr.rsu-prostorijama-opstine-stari-grad-ne-sme-se-negirati-genocid-i-promovisati-ratni-zlocinci\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stari Grad municipal building<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on February 5th, our organizations\u2019 activists were physically assaulted. A timely reaction on part of the authorities to the assault and genocide denial was lacking. <\/span><b>Vojislav \u0160e\u0161elj has continued his tour of hatred and crime glorification across several cities in Serbia (Novi Sad, Subotica, Bajina Ba\u0161ta, \u010ca\u010dak and Zaje\u010dar)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He was met with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.danas.rs\/drustvo\/crvena-farba-boje-krvi-u-znak-protesta-zbog-promocije-seseljeve-knjige-u-novom-sadu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">resistance on part of the citizens<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but no reaction came from the police.
