A three-day programme of monitoring of and learning about trials for war crimes consists of an informative lecture one day before the hearing (<\/span>Tuesday, February 18<\/b>), going to the trial for the \u0160trpci case (<\/span>February 19<\/b>) and a discussion after going to the court at YIHR\u2019s office (<\/span>February 20<\/b>).<\/span><\/p>\n

Trial for the crime in \u0160trpci started on March 4 2019, three and a half years after the first charges were filed. All the accused pleaded not guilty. Charges against the five accused was filed for the first time in March 2015, after they were arrested, together with ten other persons who were prosecuted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in a coordinated action of Serbian and BiH police and judicial authorities on December 5 2014. <\/span>The accused in the \u0160trpci case are charged with war crime against civilian population, as co-perpetrators, in \u0160trpci, Prelovo and<\/b> Mu\u0161i\u0107i, Bosnia and Herzegovina. On February 27 1993, 20 passengers were abducted from a Belgrade-Bar train at \u0160trpci station. They were then killed and their bodies were thrown into the Drina River.<\/b><\/p>\n

Victims of this crime are: Esad Kapetanovi\u0107, Ilijaz Li\u010din, Fehim Bakija, \u0160e\u0107o Softi\u0107, Rifat Husovi\u0107, Halil Zup\u010devi\u0107, Senad \u0110e\u010devi\u0107, Jusuf Rastoder, Ismet Baba\u010di\u0107, Toma Buzov, Adem Alomerovi\u0107, Muhedin Hani\u0107, Safet Preljevi\u0107, D\u017eafer Topuzovi\u0107, Rasim \u0106ori\u0107, Fikret Memovi\u0107, Fevzija Zekovi\u0107, Nijazim Kajevi\u0107, Zvjezdan Zuli\u010di\u0107 and one unidentified person.<\/span><\/p>\n

The remains of only four victims have been found so far. <\/b>Halil<\/span> Zup\u010devi\u0107\u2019s body was found in late 2009 at the banks of Lake Peru\u0107ac, while the remains of Rasim \u0106ori\u0107, Jusuf Rastoder and Ilijaz Li\u010din were found in the same lake in 2010. Other victims are still missing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Only Neboj\u0161a Ranisavljevi\u0107 and Mi\u0107o Jovi\u010di\u0107 have been finally convicted for this crime to date. In the proceedings against Neboj\u0161a Ranisavljevi\u0107 conducted before the Higher Court in Bijelo Polje (Montenegro), it was established that a group of members of the Vi\u0161egrad Brigade of the Republic of Srpska Army, under command of Milan Luki\u0107, forcefully stopped the train at the \u0160trpci station and took out 18 Bosniak passengers, one Croat and one unidentified person. They were transferred by a military truck to the building of the primary school in Prelovo near Vi\u0161egrad. First they were stripped of all valuables and beaten up, then they were tied with wire and taken to a vacant building in the nearby village of Mu\u0161i\u0107i, where they were ordered to lie down, and Milan Luki\u0107 and Boban In\u0111i\u0107 killed them. During that time, Ranisavljevi\u0107 was keeping guard in front of the house. When one of abducted passengers tried to escape, Ranisavljevi\u0107 wounded him. The wounded passenger was then killed by Milan Luki\u0107. In 2003, Ranisavljevi\u0107 was <\/span>sentenced<\/span> to imprisonment of 15 years. <\/span><\/p>\n
