Inspired by the <\/span>\u201cMother\u2019s Scarf\u201d<\/span><\/a> campaign launched by the Association \u201cMothers of the Enclaves of Srebrenica and \u017depa\u201d and the Post-Conflict Research Center (PCRC) from Bosnia and Herzegovina, this symbolic action invites people to raise scarves as a gesture of remembrance, empathy, solidarity, and hope. Across the world, scarves carry deep meaning in all communities – regardless of religious or ethnic differences. When raised collectively, they become a silent yet powerful symbol of grief, resilience, and a call for peace. The scarves that will be displayed in Belgrade were sent by the Mothers of Srebrenica with support from the PCRC.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this way, we join organizations and individuals across the world in a commemorative action honoring the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and expressing solidarity with their families and survivors. The joint action will take place simultaneously in multiple countries – including Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Jordan, Iraq, Cambodia, and many others – demonstrating a united call for justice and a firm commitment that genocide must be condemned and never forgotten.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThirty years after the genocide, our commitment remains the same: to remember, to educate, and to break the cycles of division,\u201d emphasizes Velma \u0160ari\u0107 from the Post-Conflict Research Center.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2024, <\/span>at least 40 of the most serious cases of genocide denial in Srebrenica<\/span><\/a> by Serbian government officials have been recorded, while numerous media outlets, politicians, members of academia, and other public figures continue to participate in a decades-long pattern of denying this crime and\/or its legal classification. Anyone who refers to the rulings of international courts, which classified the mass human rights violations in and around Srebrenica in July 1995 as genocide, is discredited and <\/span>accused of labeling Serbs as a genocidal people<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Education and an inclusive culture of remembrance are the most effective ways to combat denial of these crimes. That is why we invite you to join us in this collective act of remembrance, marking 30 years since the genocide in Srebrenica.<\/span><\/p>\n
